Because HEVs combine an electric drive with the internal combustion engine (ICE) in the powertrain, the vehicle?s kinetic energy can be captured during braking and transformed into electrical energy in the battery. The dual power source also means that the ICE can be reduced in size and can operate at its most efficient speeds. The process of designing HEV technology benefits greatly through an accurate and complete model of the mechanical and electrical power components, and the controller, which manages the interaction of these components.This webinar introduced the products SimMechanics, SimDriveline and SimPowerSystems and showed how to:
- Model in detail an internal combustion engine in SimMechanics
- Build efficient models of the powertrain with SimDriveline that include gears, clutches and shaft dynamics
- Build models of the electric drive with SimPowerSystems
This webinar also showed how these products integrate tightly within Simulink, which enables the benefits of one environment for simulating the controller and plant, and full access to the control system development and testing tools that are available through Simulink.
